Let Your Light Shine

Within each of us there is a light that shines. It can become dimmed by our experiences, but ironically, these same experiences come to help us to grow, and to lead us back to our inner light.
Trust that all is happening for your higher good, for your evolution, expanding you in ways you cannot yet understand. The best thing you can do for yourself in times of challenge is to learn to understand what the lesson isand what it is trying to teach you. By learning to work with the lesson, instead of being unknowingly bounced around by it, you can learn to value the challenge, grow, and put the lesson to rest. The alternative is to have the lesson come back to you over and over again until you are ready. And it will, until you get it.

  1. Hi Angela,
I am also an empath and intuitive life coach and I have just started a new blog called higher ground haven. I love this post about shining your light–it is exactly how I feel about processing our feelings, learning from our life lessons as they unfold in front of us, and listening to our inner guidance. It is my pleasure to meet a fellow empath helping those highly intuitive, compassionate souls who are ready to heal and find their true voice. I am interested in your opinion on avoiding contact with emotional (energy) vampires.

  2. Wonderful to meet you earth angel! Your question is a very good one and one that sometimes takes empaths many years to even realize to ask.

Being an empath means that you are extra sensitive to others energies and feelings. It is the gift of an empath but until you realize how to utilize this gift it can be your weak spot. An empathic person must be aware of sensing someones energy and emotion but not owning it.

In addition, being an empath draws all kinds of people to your bright light and energy. You should not try to avoid contact with emotional energy vampires, but instead learn to create healthy boundaries with them. You can do this by consciously being aware of their patterns of behavior and not be influenced by them. It is well known that healers are generous givers of all kinds of energy. It is the lesson of the healer to know when to give and when to draw the healthy line for themselves. If they let themselves be depleted then they are no good to anyone. At the same time you will be demonstrating healthy boundaries and relationship with the person that can tend to be an emotional energy vampire to those that allow them to be.

The power is yours. Do not let someone else take it away or alter your choices. Someone cannot drain you unless you let them.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any additional questions as you start on your life path.

    Blessings,

    Angela

With all due respect… this is very general and does not provide specific or literal help ..Of course we must limit our time with emotional and energy drainers…. but for those times due to family occasions etc ..that we must be with them… I was hoping for more specific advice….

    • I would be happy to expand upon what I have stated above.

We have the power within our selves to RESPOND or REACT to another person’s actions. When we are aware of our choice and take the opportunity to view the situation as an observer, we can choose to RESPOND in a way that we choose instead of REACTING to triggers that people try to hit within us.

When we are in control of how we respond and what triggers we let people push it is easier to be around those that try to drain us with their behavior. It is truly a test for us to learn to be in control of how others can control us. If we can be around a person and not let them affect our energy then we are truly in our power. Imagine that you can be the calm in the middle of the storm.

Families are a wonderful test for helping us grow and teaching us the lessons that we are still working on learning. When you are being triggered by a family member stop and take a look at what lesson they are bringing to light for you. Ask yourself what is it that is being triggered and see the situation as the gift that it is to you.

When I am around energy drainers I keep telling myself “this is irrelevant to me”, “this doesn’t have anything to do with me” to keep me focused on myself and not their negative energy. I listen but I do not absorb.

    • Good for you. We can learn to have empathy and be present to others without taking on their negative energies. In addition, we can learn to take the draining energy that someone is emitting and transmute it into loving energy and send it back to them. Try this and see what you can do to affect other’s moods instead of letting them affect yours.

This is so true and I finally got “it” yesterday re one particular life lesson, wanting to share what you have learned and are excited about when a close friend or family member is not interested. After many, many years, I think I have finally got that message which seems so obvious. 🙂 Whew!!!
