Aloha,
As I sit in my place in Hawaii, as I am today, and I look out the window, I often see nature sending me messages. I love to stop whatever I am doing periodically and either go outside, or look out the window. I find that a break from a busy schedule with mental processing, coaching or writing can help me to reconnect with nature. This allows a shift in my body, mind, and spirit, which in turn helps me to ground myself and refresh my focus and my energy. This watching of nature allows me to go to a place of peace, and helps me to clear the thoughts and voices bouncing inside my head.
As I take a break and reconnect to nature, I consciously notice my breathing. Am I breathing shallowly, or holding my breath too long, or am I breathing in a deep and relaxed way, allowing my body to open up, to receive a wonderful flow of oxygen and energy? I find that a couple of good, deep cleansing breaths can allow me to release whatever blocks I may have created for myself, whether they are mental, physical or emotional. I sometimes even like to allow an actual sound to emerge, as I breathe with my entire being, and I no longer worry about what the neighbors are thinking about me; I am at peace with my own movements. I understand that my body is my temple, and it’s important to give it the love, nurturing, and care it truly needs. I understand that love starts at home, and if I do not respect, love, and honor my body, mind, and spirit, others will not either.
So I take the time, even if it is just for a few minutes, to allow myself to reconnect to my center through the power of nature. I tune into the birds to let their rhythm of song guide the rhythm of my breath, my body, and my mind. I focus on how wonderful the gentle breeze feels against my skin.  I look around to see the bright cheerful colors popping out of the bushes as lush flowers, or delicate buds. I look above to see the wide open sky encouraging me to reach for the heavens, reminding me there is no limit on how much I can dream, create, or love. I sense the tranquility of life that is somehow always there for us, always available for reconnection, even when the cars are flying by, and landscaping tools are all buzzing in a high pitch.
As I take the time to reconnect to nature and reconnect to myself, I often give out a little laugh when something moves or tickles me. Sometimes it is a bird being dramatic, or a butterfly fluttering around my head, a mountain standing so strong and graceful at the same time, or even a cloud that quickly transforms into the shape of a funny animal, or a heart, then changes into something else in the very next minute.
It may seem to be such a simple pleasure, but I am always amazed at the power these moments actually hold. Inspiration is all around us, and some of the best forms of it are totally free. This power is there, waiting for us to share in the connection of life. We need to remember to stop and say hello.
