Fall is upon us, and the change of seasons is recognizable. For some of us, it means watching the leaves of the trees turn to vivid autumn colors and drop to the ground one by one, as the tree prepares for its annual cycle of shedding. For others of us in warmer climates, it means feeling the first cool breeze across your cheek in the morning and packing away those swimsuits for a while.
Change is sometimes hard for us to accept; yet, it is and always will be a constant in our lives. There is truth in the saying, “The only thing that stays the same is change,” by Jarod Kintz. Change is what helps us to grow and evolve physically, mentally, and spiritually. Imagine what you would look like and how you would feel if you were still wearing those sneakers that were cool when you were in the 5th grade. At one point, you could never image life without them, and and now you see that they no longer fit you in size or style.

Fall is a time for letting go of what no longer serves us. As we continue to grow, we will find that some things are not going to fit us any longer. Fall is a time that we may see many things in our life fall away from us. Some of these things could include jobs, friendships, relationships, ideas, or lifestyles.
When this occurs, the first step is to give thanks for what was in your life and gave you the life lesson you experienced.  The next step is to understand at the deepest level what the lesson taught you about yourself. Understanding the lesson is an important step, because if you do not learn from the lesson, it will be brought back to you in another form. We have many lessons to learn in our lifetime, and we do not want to spend time repeating the ones that we do not enjoy.

The final step is to let go. By letting go of the person, place, or thing, you are creating space for something new to come into your life that is better aligned with your current energy.
Imagine that you have been enjoying a new activity that has helped you to tone up and lose some weight. You understand that you were previously not valuing yourself enough to find the time to do an activity that you enjoy, but now you have honored yourself with the time to engage in a fulfilling activity. You are now feeling healthier and your entire being is glowing, but your old clothes no longer compliment your new shape. You find yourself going through your closet, having one more tender moment with some of those well-loved pieces of clothing, and pulling them out to pass onto someone who can now use them. By clearing out the old things that no longer fit, you have created the space to allow the new to come in that will support and compliment the new you. It is time to decide what you want your new wardrobe to look like and how you want to feel in those new clothes. The shift in you has created an opportunity for you to continue to create more change for yourself.
Sometimes the process is harder when the letting go involves a loved one instead of a piece of clothing, but the process is the same. Give thanks for the past, and then let it go to make room for an expanded future, the one that you are creating at this very moment. What do you want it to look like? How do you want it to feel? What is your deepest desire? It is in your hands. What will you create now?
